68 Crore

  • The 68,000,000 Tirthas are often symbolically associated with sacred river banks, temples, and places where sages have meditated. The Ganga River, specifically, is often said to contain the power of all 68 crore Tirthas within it.
  • Panchanad/Hatakeshwar Tirth (Kurukshetra): According to the Vamana Purana, this site is considered a "Koti Tirtha" (place of crores of tirthas), where Rudra (Shiva) exists having consolidated 68 crore tirthas. It is believed that the holy waters here contain the brilliance and power of these 68 tirthas.
  • Symbolism of the Cow: In certain cultural and legal contexts, the cow is revered as a living embodiment of 68 crore holy places and 33 crore gods.
  • Jains across India observed a total of 68.6 crore fasts (fasting events/days) as part of the restoration celebrations for the 2,800-year-old Shri Jirwala Parshvanath Jain Tirth in Dantrai village, Sirohi district, Rajasthan.
